SUMMARY:ECHOES BY SATOKO IMAZU
DESCRIPTION:As the first artist in the Artist-in-Residence program (A!R) presented by Ace Hotel Kyoto × BRUTUS\, Satoko Imazu will present her exhibition “ECHOES” from May 1 to July 31\, 2026 at the 1F Lobby Gallery. A reception party will be held on the same day from 6:30 PM\, followed by a photo tour workshop scheduled for Saturday\, May 2. \nStatement:For this residency\, I chose the Kyoto Imperial Palace as my subject— a place deeply rooted in history for Kyoto residents\, yet also part of their everyday lives. \nWhat drew me to this theme was how different it feels from the Imperial Palace and gardens in Tokyo\, where I live. In Kyoto\, I observed people casually cycling through the grounds on their way to work or school\, maintaining daily running routines\, taking walks\, resting\, and on weekends\, playing baseball or practicing tennis. Children play freely\, and the atmosphere in some ways resembles New York’s Central Park. \nDespite the presence of the solemn “Gosho\,” this space uniquely embodies the everyday lives of Kyoto’s people. It feels like a singular place where history and daily activity coexist. \nAs I visited the Gosho each day\, I also paid attention to the changing scenery along the way. Through this process\, I focused on my ongoing artistic theme of “the everyday” while creating this body of work. \n“ECHOES”Within the present moment of everyday life\, there lingers the quiet presence of centuries past—an uncanny sense of time adrift. \n\n\nAce Hotel Kyoto × BRUTUSで行われるアーティストインレジデンスプログラム（A!R）の一人目のアーティストとして今津聡子さんの展示「ECHOES」が2026年5月1日から7月31日まで1F ロビーギャラリーにて開催されます。 \n5月1日（金）18:30からはレセプションパーティー、5月2日（土）10:30からはフォトツアーのワークショップを開催予定。 \nステイトメント: \n今回の滞在制作では、 京都に住む方々にとって歴史が深い場所で在りながら、 日常の一部である 『京都御所』 をテーマとしました。 \nこのテーマを選んだ理由として、 私が普段生活をしている東京にある皇居や御苑とは大きく異なり、 御所を通勤通学のためのルートとして自転車で横切る人々、 習慣のランニング、 お散歩や 休憩、 週末には野球大会やテニスの練習、 子どもたちが無邪気に遊ぶ姿、 それがまるでNYのセントラルパークのようでいて、 とても興味深い存在だと思ったから です。 \nここには厳かな 「御所」 の存在がある中で、 京都の人々の毎日の営みを内在している ユニークでいて、 唯一の場所なのではと。 毎日御所に通う中で現れる道中の景色も含めて、 作品を作る上で私が掲げている ライフテーマである” 日常” に着目し撮影しました。 \n『 ECHOES』 今現在の暮らしの中に、 何世紀もの悠久の時間がたゆたうその不思議
