HOUSE PARTY WITH GBA’S EXTENDED FAMILY: CAMELLA EHLKE

  • 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm | Thursday February 09, 2023
  • Gallery | Ace Hotel Brooklyn

The table is the heart of the home.

Triple Five founder and streetwear designer Camella Ehlke presents a new series of marvelously outfitted chairs on friendship and love. Working with materials donated by and 3.1 Phillip Lim, Ehlke reworked and upcycled deadstock fabrics, samples and waste materials to dress three pairs of chair friends, Soulmates.

Her new series of furniture will be set around a sleek Gubi dining table, surrounded by new fabric wall works – an intimate dining room for Ace’s global travelers to find connection and respite.

Join us to celebrate Camella Ehlke’s work, with a drop in DJ set by Stretch Armstrong and Justin Strauss!

Ace Hotel x GBA:
Around the corner and down Bond St., our neighbors Guilty By Association are building a digital bridge to empower the creative unseen, redistribute wealth and reengineer an antiquated system — art. This season, we are partnering with GBA for a trio of solo exhibitions featuring a selection of their artist kin. We’re calling it “Extended Family.”

The artist:
Though Camella Ehlke exited her company in 2004, she continues to explore ways to repurpose textiles, mixing and matching, fraying and pleating — which Abloh coined “the crash of fabrics.” The Off-White™ designer generously shipped his surplus and sample yardage from his Milan fabric house and kickstarted Ehlke’s artistic practice of one-of-a-kind outfits for chairs.

Ace Artist in Residence & Byline present -- Tomorrow's Garden by Caroline Zimbalist at Gallery

With this seminal exhibition, Tomorrow’s Garden, we glimpse through a keyhole. Behind the door is an imagined, futuristic world where the overuse of plastic melted into nature and created new species of bioplastic lifeforms. An enchanted oyster lies in the ocean with aquatic creatures and flora. A hanging abstract, bioplastic jellyfish illuminates an underwater world, a forest where hybrid amphibians and fairies tend to the changed planet. Caroline questions what the future can look like in a world where nature…
